Air Mass
A large body of air with similar properties of temperature and humidity
Maritime Polar Air
Cold and Humid air that forms over water
Continental Tropical Air
Warm and dry, forms over land
Continental Polar Air
Cold and Dry, forms over land
Maritime Tropical Air
Warm and humid, forms over bodies of water
Fronts
A boundary separating two masses of air. The fronts are Stationary front, Occluded front, Cold front, Warm front
Warm Front
When a warm air mass meets and overrides a cold air mass. Brings long periods of light drizzle and warmer temperatures
Cold front
Forms when a cold air mass meets and causes a warm air mass to rise. Brings thunderstorms, heavy rain, or snow. Brings cooler temperatures and last for short periods of time
Anemometer
A tool used to measure wind speed
Hydrometer/Hygrometer
A weather tool used to measure the amount of moisture in the air (humidity)
Barometer
A weather tool used to measure air pressure including low and high pressure
Ran Guage
Measures the amount of rainfall
Radar
Measures rain and precipitation inside a storm
Wind Vane
A tool used to show what direction the wind is blowing from
Stationary Front
Forms when a cold air mass meets a warm air mass and results in little movement. Drizzles but has no heavy precipitation and has very little movement.
