Weather Radar Flashcards
Radar range is?
300 nm
Radar scans over an azimuth of?
and rate of?
120° azimuth
rate of 40° per second
Radar tilt in auto vs manual mode?
Auto tilt is ±32°
manual mode ±15°
One Radar.
But capable of independently providing information for the left and right side of the cockpit, as if there were two radars.
Bottom line on the Weather Radar status block shows what?
Ground clutter suppression (GCS) status, or weather radar system related error messages.
Radar is inactive when?
Engines are not running
Do you need to turn off the Radar after landing?
No. Radar will automatically switch to STANDBY after landing.
Radar test mode.
Test pattern is displayed within 12 seconds of selecting the test mode. System does not transmit radio frequency energy during this test.
Radar Automatic mode functions include?
*MultiScan beam control
*Ground clutter suppression
*Smart scan
*Overflight protection
*Path attenuation compensation
*Temperature compensation
*Geographic weather correlation
What is Smart Scan in Weather Radar?
In a right turn the radar scans more frequently to the right to reduce the delay in displaying data as the aircraft turns toward the weather.
Overflight Protection is operational above what altitude?
22,000 ft
Path Attenuation Compensation (PAC) is disabled when?
*MAP or TURB only mode is selected
*GAIN setting is any value except NORM
*Manual mode of operation is selected
Using GAIN control in Radar.
Return gain to normal upon completion of weather analysis. Failure to do so may result in loss of weather targets at negative gain settings.
Turbulence (TURB) mode
Shows precipitation turbulence returns only within 40NM. This mode remains active for 30 seconds, then switches to WX+T mode.
Weather radar fault indications
There are no WX crew alerting system (CAS) messages. A fault message is displayed in the WX data block. Flash for 5 seconds then become steady.
