Q

APR is armed when?

A

APR switch is selected to ARM and both engines N1 rpm is above 79%(N1 speed mode). This is indicated by the APR ARM advisory EICAS message.

8
Q

During takeoff the APR is activated when?

A

N1 RPM drops below 67.6% rpm. The system commands both engines to increase N1 speed. The good engine N1 is increased by a minimum of 2%=500 pounds of thrust.

16
Q

Variable Geometry (VG) compressor does what?

A

The VG system optimizes the airflow’s angle of attack at the compressor blades and provides compressor stall and surge protection.

17
Q

N2 compressor gearbox drives what?

A
  • Engine lubrication pumps
  • Alternator that powers the N1 control amplifier
  • Engine-driven hydralic pump (hydraulic pump 1A or 2A)
  • Engine driven fuel pump
  • Integral drive AC generator (IDG)
18
Q

N1 control amplifier or electronic control unit (ECU) does what?

A

Works in tandem with the Fuel control unit (FCU). trims the FCU fuel output to maintain a N1 speed schedule for a given thrust lever setting. At above 79% N1 the amplifier controls the engine N1 rpm.

19
Q

The engine fuel system, in addition to providing fuel for combustion is used for:

A
  • Controlling and actuating the VG compressor linkage
  • Cooling the engine oil
  • Actuating and lubricating servos within the (FCU)
  • Providing motive flow for the main ejector and scavenge ejector pumps.
20
Q

The SHUT OFF position shuts the fuel off at the?

A

FCU

21
Q

The FIRE PUSH switch/light closes the fuel at?

A

Shutoff valve

22
Q

The Fuel Control Unit (FCU) is?

A

Hydromechanical metering device that supplies fuel in response to mechanical inputs from the thrust levers.

23
Q

With the Eng Speed switch ON what automatic switchover occurs?

A

Automatic swichover from N2 to N1 speed governing occurs at 79% N1.
With the switches off the engines will revert to N2 speed control.

24
Q

Engine Bleed air is extracted from what engine stages.

A
  • 7th stage: pressuriztion of the oil seals, and the venting of engine sumps in the lubrication system.
  • 10th stage: pneumatic supply to the air conditioning and pressuriztion systems, and engine starting.
  • 14th stage: pnematic supply to the engine cowl and wing anti-ice systems, or thrust reverser systems
25
Q

Starting system consists of

A

Starter control valve and the air turbine starter. The air turbine starter drives the accessoy gearbox, which in turn drives the N2 core section. DC electrical power and air from the 10th-stage bleed air manifold are required to open the starter control valve and engage the air turbine starter.

26
Q

Start Sequence when the engine START switch/light is pressed.

A
  • Left, right and isolation 10th-stage bleed air SOVs open.
  • Starter control valve on the associated engine opens to allow pressure from the 10th-stage mainifuold to engage the air turbine starter.
  • When the starter control valve opens, a white light illuminates in the associated START swich/light.
  • At 55% N2 rpm, the start control valve is de-energized and the air turbine starter disengages.
27
Q

Ignition system A is powered by?

A

AC essential bus

28
Q

Ignition system B is powered by?

A

The battery bus through a static inverter. Use B for DC starts. Summary page does not display bleed-pressure indications.

29
Q

Autoignition activation

A

Is based upon angle-of-attack (AOA) data. Both system A and B are energized by the stall warning computer.

30
Q

ENG SPEED switches off does what?

A
  • Engine speed control is in N2 mode regardless of N1 rpm
  • Disables the APR system.
31
Q

Hot Icon (hot start)

A

Indicates that engine has a hot start; remains displayed until engine is shut down and ITT reduces below 220°C
