Convection Current
The cold heavy air at the poles moves toward the Equator. This causes a constant ‘river’ of air movement called convection currents.
Sea breeze
A breeze blowing toward the land from the sea.
Land breeze
A breeze blowing toward the sea from the land.
Coriolis Effect
Deflects moving objects to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern
Jet stream
Westerly air currents encircling the globe several miles above the earth.
Trade winds
Winds that blow towards the equator.
Doldrums
The air between the trade wind
Prevailing winds
Winds that blow away from the equator
Prevailing westerlies
West to east over U.S.
Prevailing easterlies
Found over U.S. east to west
Polar easterlies
Near poles east to west
El Niño
A band of warm air over the Pacific Ocean
La Niña
Band of cold water in Pacific
Gulf Stream
A powerful, warm, and swift Atlantic ocean current that originates in the Gulf of Mexico and stretches
