Destination Aerodrome Forecast’s (TAF/TTF) are mandatory for IFR flights and must be valid….
30 mins before and 60 mins after planned ETA.
If forecasts cannot be obtained then an IFR flight may depart without provided he is satisfied the departure the weather will permit a safe return within 1 hour of departure, PROVIDED
Updated forecast information must be accessed within 1 hour of departure.
Area Forecasts (ARFOR) for operations below
FL 200
The ARFOR cloud datum and validity required for a flight?
Cloud datum is MSL
AND
Must be valid for entire flight
Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF)
• Valid for airspace within 5nm of center of aerodrome runway complex
TAF
- Used to determine alternate requirements
* Cloud datum is aerodrome elevation
TAF
- Must be valid for 30 minutes before and 60 minutes after planed ETA
- 30 minute buffers apply to INTER/TEMPO or FM periods
Trend Type Forecast (TTF)
• Valid for airspace within 5nm of center of aerodrome runway complex
TTF
• Valid for 3 hours from time of observation
AND
• Replaces TAF for period of validity

INTER
Used to indicate changes in prevailing conditions of less than 30 minutes

If ETA is in buffer after the period only sufficient fuel to exit the buffer required

Used to indicate changes in prevailing conditions of less than 60 minutes

- For TAF, 30 minute buffers apply either side of validity
