Weather Flashcards
Air mass
A body of airs with similar properties through it. (Temperature and water vapor most important
Continental Polar
A cold and dry air mass
Maritime polar
A cold and wet air mass
Maritime tropical
A warm and wet air mass
Continental tropical
A warm and dry air mass
Front
A boundary between two air masses
Warm front
A warm air mass meets and overrides a cold air mass. Warm air moves over cold air. Brings long periods of light drizzle. Brings warmer temperatures
Cold front
When a cold air mass meets a warm air mass and forces it to rise. Fast moving.brings thunderstorms, heavy rain and snow. Brings cooler temperatures
Occluded front
A cold air mass overtakes a slower moving warm air mass and forces the warm air up. The cold air continues advancing until it meets another cold air mass. Brings more precipitation.
Stationary front
Cold air mass and a warm air mass meet and it results in,little movement drizzles does not bring heavy precipitation. Little movement or moves back and forth in the same area
Wind vane
A wind came shows the direction the wind is blowing from
Rain gauge
A rain gauge shows how much rain has fallen
Thermometer
A thermometer measures the temperature
Hygrometer
A hygrometer measures the moisture in the air
