The Water Cycle Flashcards
The Water Cycle
The water cycle is the repeated movement of water through in different forms of matter
Condensation
When water vapor turns into liquid water
Evaporation
Evaporation is liquid water turning into water vapor
Runoff
Water moving downhill
Precipitation
When water falls from clouds like rain, snow sleet or hail
Sublimation
Ice changing into water vapor without first melting
Water vapor
Liquid water that has evaporated
Transpiration
Transpiration is a plant is the proccess where plants absorb (drink) water through there roots and give off water through there leaves(sweating)
Fog
A cloud at ground level;forms when air near the ground cools;the more water droplets that condenses, the thicker the fog
Cumulus
Mid-altitude; small, white, puffy balls, looks like a cotton ball; brings fair weather
Stratus
Low-Altitude; a gray blanket covering the sky; bring light rain and drizzle
Cirrus
Thin wispy and white; high altitude; brings fair weather; looks like a feather
Hail
Starts as ice crystals (snow) Strong winds blow rain and snow to the top of the cloud continues to happen the ice gets bigger ice too heavy it forms clouds
Vertical cloud, thunderhead, cumulonimbus
Grows vertically stretch from 10,000 to 12,000f meters; can be very dark in color; brings thunderstorms
Snow
Starts as ice crystals ( snow) they stay as ice crystals as long as the temperature. Is 32 F or 0 C
