Weather Flashcards
Tropical Maritime
North Atlantic Ocean warm and wet weather
Tropical continental
Southern Europe and North Africa warm and dry
Polar Continental
Northern Europe Cold and Dry
Polar Maritime
North Atlantic and cold and wet
Arctic Maritime
Very cols but not always wet due to the loe humidity
Tropical Continental Advantages
- People can take part in outdiir actvities
- More people buy products like sunscreen and icelollies which increases shop’s profit
Tropical continental disadvantages
- There is a lack of water wich results in hosepipe bans
- More people end up in hisial due to heatstrokes they also suffer from sunburns and dehydration this puts a strain on the medical resources.
Polar continental Advantages
- This air mass can bring snoy conditions, which allows people to take part in outdoor activities such as snowboarding or skiing
- Ski resort booking will increase, bringing more money to the local economy
Polar continental Disadvantages
- more accidents due to slippery roads which results in more people getting admitted to hospital putting a strain on the medical resources
Anticyclone-
- HIgh sir pressure will be covering the country and cold air will be sinking making it cold as it is mid December and there is a lack of clouds allowing heat to escape bringing very low teperatures.
- Skies will clear as there are no fronts to cause cloud formation in an anticyclone
High pressure in winter brings cold overnight temperatures wich results in frost and icy roads - A cold front will move over Eastern Scotlan making snow more likely to fall
- Isobars become closer togerther so wind speed increases this would make bridges more dangerous for lorries.
- Stronger winds and heavy rainfall partially cause bliszzards reducing visiblity causing dangerous driving conditions.
Depression
Due to the approah of the warm front, Stirling’s air pressure will fall and cloud cover will increase because air rises steadily over the cold air this cools an condenses to form long nimbostratus clouds that provide staedy rain. Winds come from the south east and are strong as the isobars are closer together. Then Stirlng will be in the warm sector of the depression clouds life this means that temperature will sart to rse and it may be showery or the rain may stop altogether. Due to the cold front approaching cloud cover will increase with culminonimbus clouds brining heav rainfall to Stirling. Temperatures will drop as the front passes over Stiling. As the front begins to move away the sky will clear, air pressure will drop and the air pressure will rise.
