WBC morphology Flashcards
Neutrophils- biggest*
normal count:50%-70%
size:10-14μm

cytoplasm: Pale bluish with violet-pink granules
life span: 2-5 days
Eosinophils
normal count:1%-4%
size:10-14μm
nucleus:Bilobed or spectacle shaped
cytoplasm:Eosinophillic, brick red, coarse numerous granules
life span: 7-12 days
Basophils
normal count:0.4%
size:10-14μm
nucleus:Irregular bilobed & masked by thick bluish granules
cytoplasm:Few, thick, bluish or violet granules, partially masking the nucleus, cell border is not clear
life span:12-15 days
Small lymphocytes -smallest*
normal count:20%-40%
size:8-10μm
nucleus:Single lobe, condensed and appears like a large ink spot
cytoplasm:Little cytoplasm, usually crescentic shaped, basophillic, sky blue, no granules
life span:-
Large lymphocytes
normal count:-
size:12-16μm
nucleus:Large, single lobe condensed chromatin centrally placed darkly stained
cytoplasm:Abundant less than nucleus, basophillic, sky blue in colour, no granules
life span: Up to 1 day
Monocytes
normal count:2%-8%
size:15-20μm
nucleus:Large, single lobe nucleus, kidney shaped or round, fine chromatin reticulum lightly stained
cytoplasm:Abundant cytoplasm more than nucleus, basophilic, grey blue or light blue, no granules in cytoplasm
life span:2-5 days
