Waves - sound and light Flashcards
How does light travel
Light travels in transverse waves
How does sound travel
Sound travels in longitudinal waves
What is a wave
A wave is a vibration which transfers energy
What are the three measurements of a wave
Amplitude, wavelength and frequency
What does opaque mean
Opaque means you can’t see through it
What does transparent mean
Transparent means you can see through it
Name three things that produce light
Optional e.g sun, candle, light bulb, glow worms
Name three things that reflect light
Everything other than luminous objects e.g the moon, planet and a human
What travels fastest light or sound give one piece of evidence
Light travels fastest we know this because we see lightning before we hear it
Why do we see things
Because light reflects of objects into our eyes
What is refraction
Refraction is when the light bends because it has entered a different medium
Does the light bend towards or away from the normal when it enters a more dense medium
The light bends towards the normal when it enters a more dense medium
Why does light bend in refraction
The light bends because it’s speed changes
What is reflection
Reflection is when a wave bounces off an o surface
What does the angle of incidence equal when the light is reflected off of a mirror
Angle of reflection
