Waves, Optics and the Eye Flashcards
What relation is shown by Snell’s Law?
When the refractive index of a medium which light is passing through changes, the angle relative to the normal that the light propagates at also changes.
if n2 > n1, then angle moves to be closer to the normal (decreases)
How do you calculate the angle for total internal reflection to occur?
θ_c = sin^-1(n2/n1)
What is the power equation for a thin lens?
P = 1/f = 1/d_0 + 1/d_i (in diopters/m^-1)
P is positive for converging lenses and negative for diverging lenses
What is the near point and far point?
Near point: closest distance where object is clearly in focus
Far point: furthest distance where object is clearly seen
What is the (normal) near point for a human?
25 cm = 0.25 m
What is the power of accomodation?
The variance in power of the eye between the near point and far point
