Diffusion of Gases Flashcards
What is the kinetic energy of a gas dependent on?
The KE of a gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature
What is a compressible fluid?
A fluid that can change in volume (volume is inversely proportional to pressure)
Boyle’s Law (above) only applies for gases not too dense and not too close to boiling point
What is the standard temperature and pressure for the Ideal Gas Law?
temperature = 0 degrees C = 273.15K
pressure = 1 atm = 101.3 kPa
volume = 22.4 L
How do you calculate osmotic pressure for an ideal gas?
Π = (n/V) * RT
What is Henry’s Law?
Equilibrium concentration of dissolved gas is proportional to partial pressure of the same gas, present in the gas above the liquid
What is dynamic equilibrium?
When the same number of gas molecules are leaving and entering the liquid state
