Waves Flashcards
What is a longitudinal wave?
A longitudinal wave is where the vibrations are perpendicular to the direction of the wave
What is a transverse wave?
A transverse wave is where the vibrations are in the same direction as the direction of the wave
What are the 3 wave equations?
V=F* λ
λ=F/V
F=V/λ
What are the 3 d, v and t equations
D=V*T
V=D/T
T=D/V
What is used to look at waves?
An oscilloscope
How is sound produced?
Sound is produced when things vibrate
What is the order of which sound travels from best to worst in?
Solids, liquids and then gasses because the particles are closer together
What is the speed of sound in air?
340ms-1
What is the speed of light?
300,000,000ms-1 (3*10^8)
What can’t sound pass through?
A vacuum
What do you need to calculate the speed of sound
A stopwatch, a trundle wheel and something that produces sound that can be seen from far away
