Thaddeus Lowe, the village idiot. Got on the balloon by saying that he knew how to fly it and that he knew the coordinates as to where he needed to go. Flew into Southern territory, got captured and imprisoned. Was later released

JP Morgan loaned the Union a ton of money and charged it with interest.
What were the two new states?
Nevada and West Virginia.
- Nevada was politically expedient and Lincoln needed votes.
- Virginia because it was a mining state and there was no need for slaves.
