- Nevada was politically expedient and Lincoln needed votes.
- Virginia because it was a mining state and there was no need for slaves.

What is the 15th Amendment?
1868: The right to vote. (only men) women couldn’t vote.
Why were the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendment considered “paper Amendments”?
Because they were not respected at all
What were the Jim Crow laws?
Grandfather Clause: A slave had a grandfather that had, had the right to vote. Of course since no slaves could vote before the !5th amendment took place, it was all bologna.
Poll Taxes: charging a fee to vote, most slaves wouldn’t vote because they didn’t have the money to pay for the fee.
Literacy tests: Individuals that wanted to vote had to take a test to see how much they knew.
1896: Plessy v. Ferguson
Was the case where Plessy was fighting the doctrine separate but equal.

Women fought to be included in the right to vote.
