Blockade of rivers, the Gulf of Mexico, Virginia through Florida. No supplies could get to the South. The people were constricted.
Lincoln suspends Habeas Corpus, what is it and what Amendment does it go against?
Goes against the 5th Amendment. Habeas Corpus requires that an individual that is arrested shall be taken before a judge or into court.
What were the Strategies for the South?
- Fight a defensive war, wear down North’s will to conquer.
- Get support from Europe
- Make North come South

- Cut off the South from foreign support, Naval blockade.

He was a brilliant tactician, had great models of strategy that are still used today.
- Knew the weakness of the enemy
- Knew early victories discourage North with the hope to abandon the confederacy.
- Kept arched front line so reinforcements could get in and out. Trench Warfare

50,000 troops were under Lee’s authority

Why would Lee invade the North?
To demonstrate the South’s power, gain European recognition, South wins, and hope to break the blockade.
