Waterfall Formation Flashcards
What happens first in the waterfall formation?
The soft rock is eroded and this develops an undercutting
What happens when too much soft rock is eroded?
The overhang collapses because there isn’t enough support therefore the hard rock and the rest of the soft rock collapses
When is abrasion used?
A plungepool develops because the soft rocks scrapes against the seabed in a swirling circular motion
What is hydraulic action?
A type of erosion, the act of water hitting against rocks and chipping them away
What happens when the waterfall retreats upstream?
This leaves a stepped-aided gorge and leaves gorge-like valleys
What is abrasion?
Another type of erosion, the process of wearing or scraping something away
