Water Molecule Flashcards
What is the Chemical Name for Water?
H20
What is the bond within water?
Covalent Bond
What 2 chemicals share electrons with each other?
Each Hydrogen atom share a pair of electrons with an Oxygen atom.
Which way do the electrons get pulled towards?
The electrons are pulled towards Oxygen as it has a greater affinity for them than Hydrogen.
Which chemical is negative?
Oxygen
What is H20 called due to the two charged atoms?
Bipolar Molecule.
What is the strength in Hydrogen bonds?
Very weak.
What charge is Oxygen and what is it attracted too?
Oxygen is negative so its attracted to the positive Hydrogen of another water molecule.
What is water good at?
Water is a good solvent (dissolves) as it sepeares molecules and breaks them up.
What are three functions of water in the living things?
Transport, Reproduction, Support.
What is an example of water in transport?
Minerals are transported from soil to the plant in water.
What is an example of water in reproduction?
water brings the sperm cells to the egg cell to fertilse it.
What is an example of water in support?
Without water plants would wilt.
