Water Cycle Flashcards
sun/heat energy
the sun’s heat releases energy to create evaporation and absorb the water as vapor
transpiration
trees’ “sweat” or moisture becomes vapor and releases into the atmosphere and evaporates
condensation
water vapor collects (forming clouds) and changes back into liquid state, preparing for precipitation
precipitation
water from the clouds comes down as either rain, snow, hail or sleet
gravity
gravity helps precipitation happen by releasing the water from the clouds
collection/accumulation
precipitation can cause bodies of water to form on land such as lakes or puddles
runoff
collection doesn’t always occur and sometimes flows into an ocean or other body of water/piece of land
How many elements of the water cycle are there?
7
- evaporation
- condensation
- precipitation
- sun/heat energy
- accumulation
- runoff
- transpiration
evaporation
sun absorbs excess water into the clouds, the water turns into water vapor from the heat
