water and acids and bases Flashcards

1
Q

benefits of ice having low denisty

A

water freezing at lakes, the low denisty of ice means the ice will remain on the surface, and the sruface layer of the ice insulates the water below from cold air temperatures, reducing the psssbility that the entire lake would freeze allowing aquatice life to survive

Q

what happened to cooled liquid water

A

the water molecules move slowl, a it freezes teh moelcules arrange in a way where each water molecule forms 4 hydrgoen bonds to 4 neighboruing water moleucles

Q

why does water form meniscus (when water at the top is curved)

A

molecules clinging on the glas cling to it and other water molecule cling to the molecules touching the glass forming the meniscus, they will travel up until gravity stops them.
