List other uses of water outside the home.

A

1) In farming: growing crops, feed animals, in running machines and keeping them cool.
2) In factories: in the process of manufacture, for cooling machines and in air conditioners.
3) In gardens: keeping plants growing, washing cars.
4) In mines: in machines that cool the air to send underground, in separating gold and other valuable things being mined.
5) In a power station: water is boiled to make steam to turn big machines which make electricity; some big dams use energy from falling water to turn big machines that make electricity.
6) Recreation: swimming, ski-ing, diving, surfing etc.

What are the two types of water found on earth?

A

1) salt water: most of the earth’s water is found in the sea. It tastes salty and is not good for human consumption or for watering plants and crops.
2) fresh water: plants and animals all need fresh water to live. There is not a large fresh water supply.
