What is sewage?
Liquid containing contaminants.
What is sewerage?
Whole system of sewers.
What is sewer?
Pipeline which conveys sewage. Usually unpumped.
What is a pressure main?
Pipeline that is pumped.
What is CGS?
Conventional Gravity Sewerage.
What is CED?
Common effluent disposal.
What is VGS?
Variable grade sewers.
What are the advantages of CGS?
- low maintain/op
- all sewage removed
What are this disadvantages of CGS?
- Higher capital cost
- greater disruption during construction
What are the advantages of CED?
- smaller pipes, flatter grades
- reduced organic load at WWTP
- reduced peaking loads
Disadvantages of CED?
Septic tanks must be maintained.
Needs storage facility.
Advantages of VGS?
Same as CED.
Disadvantages of VGS?
Higher maintenance.
Pump and check valves required at low properties.
Same as CED.
What is the STEP?
Septic Tank Effluent Pumping.
What is GP?
Grinder Pumps
