How do we design for roads?
We design to the 30th highest hourly flow rate. (on a hourly flow rate (% aadt) to No. of hours with higher flow)

What is the role of a transport system?
- Access to land/facilities
- Movement between locations
What is a grid network?
Squared, very little dead ends, straight streets.
What is a tributary network?
Curved streets, no true trend, many dead ends.
What is a grid/tributary network?
A tributary network within a grid square.
How do you predict travel demand? (4 steps)
Estimate future:
- trip generation (#)
- trip distribution (where from/to)
- mode choice (car, bike etc)
- route choice
How many car trips/day on average (produced + attract)? Residential

What does commercial car tips depend on?
Number of employees
What does mode of choice depend on?
Relative attractiveness (time, cost, convenience etc).
