XYZ Affair

A

In 1797, President Adams sent a delegation to France to settle trading disputed the two countries were having. The three french agents who met with the Americans demanded money before the negotiation. The Americans refused and returned to the US. When the US citizens heard, they were outraged and some wanted war. Adams didn’t want war and this resulted in an undeclared naval war.

The Election of 1800

A

The Federalist, John Adams vs the two Democratic-Republicans, Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. First time the country saw campaigning. Ended in a tie between Burr and Jefferson who both receive 73 electoral votes. After 36 votes in the House of Reps, Jefferson wins.
