Cold Northern Climate
They had to create other ways to make money than farming–> diverse economy–>manufacturing prospered which opened a lot of jobs which attracted immigrants
Northern Rivers
Fast moving and shallow–>people gathered and built cities near seaports–> trade and manufacturing centers developed–> immigrants= larger population=more power in the House
Southern Rivers
Slow moving and deep–> people lived scattered along the rivers–> few large cities–> agricultural economy didn’t attract immigrants giving the south less power in the House
Warm and humid Southern Climate
Economy based on agriculture–> need slaves and oppose tariffs on needed incoming goods
Indian Removal act
An act that moved Native tribes from their homes to reservations west of the Mississippi.
Nullification Crisis
SC tries to reject federal tariffs because they benefit the north. AJ convinced congress to lower the tariffs. Sc threatens to secede from the Union. AJ is outraged and wants to bring the federal army in to collect the tariffs. Sc backs off.
Bank Veto
Jackson hates National Bank. He vetoes the proposal to renew it. And starves out the banks remaining time by giving all the money to state banks.
Spoils System
When a president puts people who flatter him in high ranking gov positions
