- Mainly a success for Stalin
- Roosevelt was not well and tended to side with Stalin over Churchill

- Stalin was annoyed that the second front was delayed- thought that they were waiting until the Soviet Union had been seriously damaged by the Germans
- Churchill was suspicious of Stalins motives- mass grave was discovered where soviets had killed 10,000 Polish officers in 1939

- To consider what to do with Germany once victory was achieved
- Still fearful of Hitler and were therefore mostly able to agree

- Divide Germany and Berlin into 4 zones
- Allow countries that have been liberated to have free elections
- Eastern Europe would be ‘Soviet sphere of influence

- Stalin wanted a friendly Polish government as a protection from Germany
- USSR lost around 27 million people in WWII and he was determined to make USSR secure for the future

- Stalins armies were occupying most of Eastern Europe
- Americans had tested the atomic bomb
- Churchill had lost UK general elections and was replaced by Attlee

- Demilitarise and establish democracy in Germany
- Ban the Nazi Party
- To fully participate in the UN organisation

- Stalin wanted to cripple Germany and make them pay high reparations
- Stalin refused to give into US pressure to hold elections in Eastern European countries occupied by Soviet forces
