Alien Act

The Fugitive Slave Law mandated the capture and return of escaped slaves, fueling tensions before the Civil War
Abolitionism
The movement to end slavery, advocating for the immediate emancipation and rights of enslaved people

Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a deal where the United States bought roughly 828,000 square miles from France in 1803, doubling the size of the nation. The purchase cost roughly $15 million.
Embargo Act
Jefferson forbid US ships from sailing to any foreign ports to pressure Britain and France to respect American neutrality

Imports fell from $138 million to $55 million in a year

Rush-Bagot was an agreement between the United States and Great Britain in 1817 that limited naval armaments on the Great Lakes, fostering peace and demilitarization along the border.
