Germany, Italy, and Japan: The leaders were Benito Mussolini, Adolf Hitler, and Tojo Hideki.
Allied powers & leaders
United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union; Their leaders were Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin.
D-day (Date Included)
Operation Overlord, created at the Tehran Conference in Iran, the Allies would invade Normandy, France, from the United Kingdom on June 6, 1944. All 5 beaches were secured, where they would build a harbor and bring supplies through.
Stalingrad
The bloodiest battle in modern history, and it was a major WWII turning point. The casualties were 2 million combined civilians and soldiers.
Battle of the Bulge
“One last attack” from Hitler, the Germans created a bulge in the Allies’ line of defense. It was originally successful, but they began to lack supplies. The US troops stopped them and won the battle in mid-January.
Holocaust
Nazi Germany’s persecution and killing of Jews, it was an act of genocide. They would persecute Roma/ Gypsies, Mentally and Physically disabled people, Slavs, Homosexuals, Jehovahs’s Witnesses, Communists, and Jewish. These people would be sent to concentration camps for work and later to death camps to be exterminated. In the end, ⅔ of Europe’s Jews were killed, 6 million, and 5 million “undesirable” people were murdered as well.
Germany Falls - V E Day
The US and Soviet Troops surrounded Berlin to capture the Germans. Hitler ordered the troops not to surrender, but they disobeyed, the US and UK let the Soviets capture Berlin. Hitler committed suicide in his underground shelter, he knew he would be in trouble for his crimes. The official surrender was signed by the leader of the German Forces on May 8, Victory in Europe Day.
