describe the just war theory
the ideas were developed by Thomas Aquinas
the conditions are :
1) the war must be declared by a legal authority
2) the case of war must be just
3) the war must be a last resort
4) the principle of proportionality must be observed
5) the war must have a reasonable chance of success
6) only sufficient force must be used
what is the difference between a holy and just war
a holy war is fought to protect the religion of the people concerned
a buyer war is fought for any reason that is justified
cause of war
a country may go to war with another to gain power and control over resources and trade
a county may decide to defend itself from invasion by an aggressive invader wars can breakout because one country has been under the rule of another for some times and wants to be free from that country
sometimes a war starts as one country wants to defend a smaller and weaker nation
some wars begin when a country wants to take back lands which they consider to be theirs
church teaching on war
catholic- all nuclear weapons should be banned
methodist- the christian pacifist doesn’t necessarily condemn the use of every king of force but refuses to employ force unnecessarily or to destroy others
