• their goal is to fight poverty in all its forms through practical assistance to those in need .
the lives of hundreds of people in our society today are affected with poverty such as ; low income , unemployment and the effects of debt or educational disadvantage
svdp are working to make ireland a better and fairer place where caring for ppl is supported and valued and where individuals families and communities can participate fully in work and society
explain the difference between absolute and relative poverty
absolute poverty refers to the conditions seen in LEDCS or under developed countries
ppl living in absolute poverty don’t have access to basic facilities needed for a healthy life eg clean water
relative poverty is experienced by ppl who may not be in life threatening poverty but they can’t access the same benefits as others in their society
relative poverty is experienced by ppl in our society who may be unemployed homeless and aren’t able to afford treats and may live in unhealthy conditions
who is responsible for those in need ?
GOV - policies abs agencies in place é.g income support and child benefits and tax credits
THE CHURCH- outreach programmes and christian youth groups e.g night light and store house
CHARITIES- non profit organisations such as salvation army and trocaire
INDIVIDUALS- volunteering and fundraising for charities
