Wán Dài Tāng Flashcards
Actions
Tonifies the middle burner, strengthens the Spleen, transforms dampness, and stops vaginal discharge
Indications
Profuse vaginal discharge (white/pale yellow), thin, not particularly foul-smelling, usually continuous. Fatigue, lethargy, shiny/pale complexion, loose stools
T: pale with white coating.
Pulse: soggy and frail or moderate
Dysfunction: LV, SP, Girdle vessel

Chiefs
tŭ chăo bái zhú, chăo shān yào: strengthen the Spleen, augment the qi, drain dampness, bind up the essence
Both enter EV –> support Girdle vessel in securing channels
Deputies
rén shēn: strongly tonifies source qi, strengthens the Spleen
zhì cāng zhú: drying dampness
jiŭ chăo chē qián zĭ: leaches out dampness through the urine
jiŭ chăo bái sháo: softens the Liver and regulates the Spleen –> Liver qi spreads to strengthen Spleen function
Chiefs and Deputies: tonify without interfering with resolution of dampness; treat pathogenic influence without injuring normal qi.
Assistants
chén pí: moves and regulates Spleen qi to ensure tonifying will not cause stagnation
chái hú: opens areas of constraint, facilitates the ascent of clear yang (assists Spleen physiology but also balances downward-moving nature of herbs that leach out dampness)
jīng jiè suì tàn: smooth the interpenetration of Liver and Spleen
Envoy
gān căo: assists chiefs in tonifying middle burner and harmonizes actions of other ingredients
Cautions and Contraindications
Should not be used if discharge is dark yellow, contains blood, and is thick, sticky, and foul-smelling, yellow tongue coating, wiry pulse. This is Liver constraint that has transformed into heat/damp-heat, will make disorder worse.
Diagnostic Pattern
Vaginal discharge due to Spleen deficiency and dampness and Liver qi stagnation.
