Indications
Uterine bleeding or profuse menstrual bleeding in which the blood is thin and pale that either gushes out or continuously trickles out. Palpitations, shortness of breath, a pale tongue, and a deficient and big or thin and frail pulse.
Actions
Augments the qi, strengthens the Spleen, stabilizes the Penetrating vessel, and stops bleeding

Chief
shān zhū yú: sweet, sour, warming; tonifies Kidneys and benefits the Liver, has binding action on Penetrating and Conception Vessels
Deputies
duàn lóng gŭ, duàn mŭ lì: secure leakage; stabilizing Penetrating Vessel; works with chief to treat deficiency of original qi in the lower burner; calcined - further strengthens astringent, binding properties
chăo bái zhú, huáng qí: augment the qi, strengthen the Spleen; helping Spleen govern blood and stabilize Penetrating Vessel
Assistant
shān zhū yú, bái sháo: nourishes yin and blood of the Liver and Kidneys, exerts astringent, binding effect on the blood
hăi piāo xiāo, zōng lǘ tàn, wŭ bèi zĭ: restrain leakage, stop bleeding; large dosage to quickly stop bleeding but may cause blood stasis
qiàn căo gēn: stops bleeding, invigorates blood - prevent formation of blood stasis
Cautions and Contraindications
Inappropriate if bleeding so severe that it leads to an abandoned disorder characterized by profuse sweating, cold limbs, and a pulse that is faint to the point of being imperceptible. Modify formula or prescribe dú shēn tāng until condition has stabilized.
