Working methods - WC
He uses a unique carving technique that combines cameo, intaglio and faceting.
He uses traditional methods that are carefully planned out.
He links his designs to symbolise Chinese beliefs called Feng Shui.
Function/ fitness for purpose - WC
The design is a brooch to be pinned and worn on clothes.
It is good at what t does although it may be heavy and could hang down when attached to clothes.
You couldn’t wear it everyday because there is lots of little crystals and diamonds which could possibly fall out when doing everyday activities.
Aesthetics - WC
It is not very appealing because he uses dark green and purple which are not appealing to the eyes.
However, the shapes makes it appealing because it is a butterfly decorated in jewels.
It looks fragile and looks like it could break.
Texture
Bumpy because of the inserted diamonds.
Hard because of the materials.
Target market / audience - WC
Aimed at older woman because it’s not bright and colourful so it seems sophisticated.
Use/ choice of materials - WC
He will use a carved opal upside down inside a hallow crystal, set in titanium and embellished with diamonds which is a good choice because it adds detail however a bad choice because they could easily be broken or fall out.
Colour - WC
He uses a limited range of colours which emphasises it is a simplistic design.
The colours are dull which makes it look boring to look at.
The sparkling diamonds make it more appealing.
Line -WC
The lines are graceful.
They are curved neatly to make the shape of the butterfly.
They are soft and delicate much like a butterfly.
Use/ choice of techniques and/ or technology - WC
He uses traditional methods such as Chinese carvings.
He then invited the ‘Wallace cut’ which consists of his own carving techniques.
2D shape - WC
Even though it is a 3D shape it is quite flat against the body.
Pattern - WC
The pattern is on the butterfly wings and it is symmetrical.
It is complex design with loads of hand-placed diamonds.
It is natural because the lines mould into shape.
3D form - WC
The object itself is quite natural and curvy especially the wings.
The jewels are quite geometric and angelic.
Use/ choice of scale - WC
It is a good size because it is small and dainty. It would fit on a blazer without falling off or getting caught on something.
It is big enough to catch attention.
Use/ choice of style - WC
The designer has used a nature style with the butterfly.
You can tell because the green on the butterfly links to the nature and gross.
Use/ choice of layout - WC
It is well organised with every bit through out.
It is symmetrical because both wings are laid out the same.
This is effective because it makes it look better.
