Use/ choice of materials/ media - JM

A

Oil pain on canvas which is effective because it gives a smooth realistic look because you cant see the brushstrokes

Oil paint gives strong vibrant colours which creates lots of visual impact.

Q

Use/ choice of technology/ techniques - JM

A

Hardly any brushstrokes because he has blended well.

The brushstrokes make it look flat and gives it a textile look (almost like fabric).

He hasn’t made effort to create a realistic tones with the brushstrokes apart from the sunflower.

Colour - JM

A

He uses a range of blues and greens for the background and the base which contrast against the yellow and orange flowers.

It is realistic but has been simplified because it doesn’t have much detail.

The vibrant., wide range of colours creates an exciting atmosphere. d

Q

Use/ choice of composition - JM

A

The focal point is the sunflowers because all the other colours are dark so the yellow stands out.

The composition looks busy because of the different patterned backgrounds collages together and also there is a lot of objects. This creates an energetic and exciting painting as your eye keeps jumping around the composition.

The objects are grouped in the centre appear ‘framed’ by the patterns this helps to make the objects the main focal point.

Q

Line - JM

A

The line featured in this painting are not too thick but you can see them.

They are black outlines. This makes the objects appear 2D and cartoon like.

It uses tiny black lines for the perfect shading beside the flowers. This helps create texture on the flowers.

Texture - JM

A

The texture is smooth throughout the effect.

This creates a simplified unrealistic.

The brushstrokes are carefully controlled however Morocco has made no attempt to create realistic texture.

All surfaces appear the same.

Pattern - JM

A

Busy patterns throughout the whole painting which makes your eyes follow and look around the painting.

Repeated geometric shapes are liked to create a busy composition (triangles / rectangles).

The objects have been simplified and appear to become part of the background pattern.

2D shapes - JM

A

The background is very flat which makes the geometric triangles and rectangles have been filled with flat colour to create a busy back ground.

Q

3D form - JM

A

He has used tones/ shadows on the objects to make them more 3D.

The fruit bowl/ fruit looks curvy because of the different tones used. He used blue tones.

The objects look chunky and solid as the tones has been applied very simply with little gradient.

Q

Use/ choice of subject matter/ imagery - JM

A

The subject matter is still like where he has chosen somethings people see/ use everyday and arranging them beside a Turkish vase.

He has used traditional subject matter such as fruit, flowers and vase. He has made this more interesting and modern by adding an imaginative background and using two view points.

Q

Use/ choice of mood/ atmosphere - JM

A

The mood is a bit sad/ depressing because of the colours. Blue usually represents dull/ sad and that is what is mostly used.

The followers bring some life to the painting because the yellow is bright and happy.

Peaceful and still. The busy pattern adds more energy and excitement to this painting as they keep our eye jumping around.

Q

Use/ choice of scale - JM

A

The objects are life size, 100cm x 100cm.

The bright colours and simple tones makes the painting cold and dramatic .

It also means that the large objects lack detail which makes them seem simplified. This creates a cold, modern visual impact.

Q

Use/choice of view point/ perspective - JM

A

Two different view points in this painting like you do with cubism work.

The main objects have been painted from the front view but the background has been painted from up above. This creates a confused perspective and composition.
