Wall And Column Forming Flashcards
What are the three main objectives of good formwork?
QUALITY - to design and build forms accurately so that the size needed, shape, position of the concrete is obtained.
SAFTY - to construct form work that is capable of supporting all dead (columns, beams, rebar) and live (wind, workers) without failure or danger to the workers or concrete structure.
ECONOMY - to build effectively so that money and time is saved.
Pg. 2 A
What is a dead load?
The weight related to all the material used in permanent structures. (Footings, foundation walls, floors.)
Pg. 3 A
What is a live load?
Live loads are comprised of the weights, forces, and pressures from objects that are not permanent or that can be moved or vary in weights. (People, furniture, snow rain, and wind.)
Pg. 3 A
A form that that is completely filled up within one hour is considered to have…?
Full liquid head pressure
Pg. 5 A
What force rotates or applies a twisting force on an object?
Torsion
Pg. 4 A
What does deflection mean in regards to formeork?
The measurement of bending that occurs when form works under load.
(The distance the formwork moves from the pressure applied by fresh concrete)
Pg. 8 A
What are the two purposes of the tie system for formwork?
1) it spreads the two wall form surfaces apart by the desired wall thickness
2) they contain the concrete pressure by not allowing the form plys to spread apart
Pg. 12 A
When using the coil tie system, what’s the recommended penetration of the coil bolt?
It’s recommended that the bolt or rod penetrates completely through the coil at least the distance of one bolt diameter.
