Broadly, how to latent models think of traits?
As inputs
Why are they desribed as latent variables?
Becuase they are understood as underpinning most other observed variables

as indicators of the latent variables
How does dynamic models think of traits broadly?
As outputs. Traits are what you find as other observable traits begin to cluster together.

More specifically, how are traits considered?
Traits are summeries of stable patterns of behaviour and experience that cohere in particular ways because of (a) interdependencies, (b) distinct and underlying causal foces i.e genes
As emergent coherences between networks of affect, behaviour, and cognition
River analogy between both models.
Latent varible models: views traits as being upstream thereby influencing affect, behaviour, cognition that makes up the stream.
Dynamic: traits appear downstream and represent the pattern of affect, behaviour, and cognition that proceeded it.
