W8: Imaging of Circulatory Disturbances Flashcards
1
Q
Categories of Imaging
A
ANATOMICAL:
radiographs; mri/CT; catheter angio.; USS
FUNCTIONAL:
USS; radionucleotide (V/Q); MRI funct. img.
2
Q
Common problems with imaging
A
- METFORMIN: contrast dye disrupt renal funct. and cause lactic acidosis. should be witheld before CT
- asthma/atopic reaction to contrast
- AKI Pt.
- clotting disturbances
- thyroid metab. disruption.
- anaphylaxis

Q
USS Types
A
- B MODE
2D. commonest. - M MODE (MOTION)
fixed plane over time. valve movement + chamber dimension and function - DOPPLER IMAGING
flow alters frequency of waves => directionality and velocity
* DVT detection
4
Q
Different Phases of CT
A
- NON CONTRAST
urinary tract calculi
arterial calcification - ARTERIAL PHASE
bleeding, aneurysm, stenosis/occl, liver mets - VENOUS PHASE
hypovasc liver mets.
abcess
venous thromb. - NEPHROGENIC PHASE
kidney tumour, trauma - DELAYED PHASE
contrast wash except fibrotic tissue. MORE SPECIFIC liver tumours
