Q

Common problems with imaging

A
  • METFORMIN: contrast dye disrupt renal funct. and cause lactic acidosis. should be witheld before CT
  • asthma/atopic reaction to contrast
  • AKI Pt.
  • clotting disturbances
  • thyroid metab. disruption.
  • anaphylaxis

USS Types

A
  1. B MODE
    2D. commonest.
  2. M MODE (MOTION)
fixed plane over time. valve movement + chamber dimension and function
  3. DOPPLER IMAGING
flow alters frequency of waves => directionality and velocity
    * DVT detection

Different Phases of CT

A
  1. NON CONTRAST
    urinary tract calculi
    arterial calcification
  2. ARTERIAL PHASE
    bleeding, aneurysm, stenosis/occl, liver mets
  3. VENOUS PHASE
    hypovasc liver mets.
    abcess
    venous thromb.
  4. NEPHROGENIC PHASE
    kidney tumour, trauma
  5. DELAYED PHASE
contrast wash except fibrotic tissue. MORE SPECIFIC liver tumours
