W3: Autonomic innervation Flashcards
Symp - where preganglionic originate? Which levels?
T1-L2
Where does sympathetic effect exit spinal cord/originate?
Lateral horn - out via ventral horn
What does dorsal root do?
Sensory in
Ramus communicans
Leave the ventral root
White - neuron leaving spine enters sympathetic trunk through this
Grey - leaves via this - goes into spinal nerve
Thoracic splanchnic nerves
Thoracic splanchnic nerves are splanchnic nerves that arise from the sympathetic trunk in the thorax and travel inferiorly to provide sympathetic supply to the abdomen. The nerves contain preganglionic sympathetic fibers and general visceral afferent fibers.
3 main ones
Greater → coeliac plexus - modulates enteric NS, adrenal medulla, sensory to pancreas
Lesser → ENS of midgut (superior mesenteric ganglia)
Least → synapse in renal plexus
Discuss sympathetic to head
Via superior cervical ganglion
Levator palpeerde and dilator papillae
What supplies heart sympathetic?
Cervical (stellate) and thoracic chain
What supplies airway sympathetic?
Thoracic chain
Sympathetic supply to abdominal organs?
Thoracic splanchnic nerves via coeliac, superior and inferior mesenteric. ganglia
What cranial nerves are para?
oculomotor
facial
glosso
vagus
Where do para cranial nerves synapse?
Organ supplied or cranial ganglia
What are the cranial ganglia
Ciliary
Pterygopalatine
Submandibular
Otic
Ciliary ganglion
Oculomotor → sphincter papillae and ciliary muscle
Pterygopalatine ganglia
facial → lacrimal gland and nasal mucosa
Submandibular ganglia
facial → submandibular and sublingual glands
