W2 - Science (2) Flashcards
Foundation of OBHR:
Hawthorne studies (turning temperature up and down in the room)
What happened?
Productivity increased regardless of changes in the external environment due to social factors like better work relationships, team cohesion and more.
Hawthorne studies:
Why are the studies important to OB?
Studies revealed to focus on the person instead of external variables.
Start of organisational behaviour
What is evidence based management?
Making the best decision based on the best available evidence.
- Encourages systematic learning and adaptability.
- Improves organisational outcomes, such as profitability and employee satisfaction
Stubborn Reliance on Intuition and Subjectivity in Employee Selection (Highhouse, 2008):
Premise?
Evidence exists, managers may or may not be aware of it, and if they are, they may not use it or believe it is useful for their situation.
Myth of expertise
Mistaken belief that expertise or experience alone consistently leads to better decision-making, particularly in where intuition is involved.
