W2 - Lumbar Spine & Muscles Flashcards
Name the honey point of a lumbar vertebrae
Vertebral body
Pedicles
Lámina
Transverse processes
Articular processes
Mammillary
Spinous process
Vertebral foreman
Intervertebral foreman
What are the 3 components of an intervertebral disc
Central nucleus pulposus
Peripheral annulus fibrosus
2 vertebral end plates
Name the 6 ligaments within the spine
Anterior longitudinal ligament
Posterior longitudinal ligament
Ligamentum flavum
Supraspinous ligament
Interspinous ligament
Intertransverse ligament
Where does the anterior/posterior longitudinal ligaments sit
Run along the entire length of the vertebral column covering the vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs
What movement does Anterior longitudinal ligament limit
Extension
What movement does the posterior longitudinal ligament limit?
Flexión
Where does ligamentum flavum attach to
Short & thick
Connects the laminae of adjacent vertebrae from C2-S1
What movement does ligamentum flavum limit
Flexión of the lumbar spine
Where does the supraspinous ligament attach to
C7 to the sacrum
This ligament is more distinct in the caudal part (base of the skull)
What does supraspinous ligament limit
Flexión
Inter spinous ligament attachment sites
Anteriorly it connects with ligamentum flavum
Posteriorly it connects with supraspinous ligament
What action does interspinous ligament limit
Flexion
Intertransverse ligament attachment sites
Placed between the transverse processes of the spine
What movement do the Intertransverse ligaments limit
Lateral flexion
Name the 2 joints in the lumbar spine
Facet joints
Intervertebral joints
What’s the ROM in all movements at the lumbar spine
Flexión = 50-60 degrees
Extension = 30 degrees
Side flexion = 25 degrees
Rotation = 1 degrees at each segmental level (less rotation at L5-S1) mean rotation 8-12 degrees
What are the 3 layers of the thoracolumbar fascia
Posterior
Middle
Anterior
Where does the posterior layer of the thoracolumbar fascia sit
Superficial to erector spinae & is attached to the spinous processes
Where does the middle layer of the thoracolumbar fascia sit
Between the erector spinae & quadratus lumborum
It attaches to transverse tips
Where does the anterior layer of the thoracolumbar fascia sit
Depp to the quadratus lumborum and attaches to the anterior part of the transverse process
What 3 layers is the anterior lateral wall made up of
External oblique
Internal oblique
Transversus abdominis
What is the vertical muscle on the anterior lateral wall called
Rectus abdominis
Origins & insertion of the external oblique
Origin
Muscular slips from the outer surfaces of the lower 8 ribs
Insertions
Lateral lip of iliac crest
Aponeurosis ending in midline raphe (línea alba)
What actions does the external oblique do
Compress the abdominal contents
Flex trunk
Bends the trunk to same side, turning anterior part of abdomen to opposite side
