W1 Flashcards
It is the sociological study of the
structures and operations of social
organizations.
ORGANIZATIONAL THEORY
it is defined as a
design with low departmentalization,
wide spans of control, centralized
authority, and little formalization. This
type of design is very common in small
start-up businesses.
SIMPLE STRUCTURE
It is defined as
a design that groups similar or related
occupational specialties together. It is
the functional approach to
departmentalization applied to the entire
organization
FUNCTIONAL STRUCTURE
it is made up of
separate, semi-autonomous units or
divisions. Within one corporation there
may be many different divisions and
each division has its own goals to
accomplish.
DIVISIONAL STRUCTURE
It can address the primary
aspects of a business’s formal organizational
structure. This theory discusses how to divide up
professional tasks most efficiently and effectively.
CLASSICAL THEORY
This argues that the
production of a commodity splits into various divisions of manufacturing, and
the people work within each division
according to their area of specialization.
DIVISION OF LABOR
This deals with a company’s vertical
growth, meaning the relationships
between business leaders and their
employees
SCALAR AND FUNCTIONAL PROCESS

relationships between all aspects of the
company or business.

allowing them enough time and support
to lead their staff.

focuses on the emotional and psychological
components of peoples’ behavior in an
organization.
NEO CLASSICAL THEORY
This theory considers interactions
between people within an organization and the
surrounding environment, as well as the
interpersonal interactions between members of
the organization.
MODERN THEORY
This theory
views organizations as a structure composed of
choice-makers, and argues that there is no one
right way to make a decision.
CONTINGENCY THEORY
This theory studies what drives
and inspires members of an organization to work
toward their professional goals
MOTIVATION THEORY
It is a concept that
argues that an organization’s environment
influences it, and understanding the impact of
this influence may help managers develop more
effective leadership strategies.

geographic location of a business can
have a great impact on the company’s
ability to grow and remain successful.
