• suspect was videotaped during several hrs of interviews
• police had good reason to suspect = eyewitnesses descriptions
• 2 experienced officers interviewed him= with lawyer present
• suspect denied involvement = eventually guilty
• after seeing evidence = confessed but still continued to lie
• videotapes were analysed + 6 fragments were isolated and coded for 12 behaviours
• the observers didn’t know if the fragments was true or a lie
