vpt for primary n perm Flashcards
What is the goal of vital pulp therapy in both primary and immature permanent teeth?
To maintain pulp vitality and allow continued root development.
What does IPT stand for in pulp therapy?
Indirect Pulp Treatment
What is the indication for IPT?
Deep caries without pulp exposure and reversible pulpitis.
What materials are used in IPT?
Calcium hydroxide; MTA.
What is the materials for pulpotomy in primary teeth? (preferred, and contraind)
MTA (mineral trioxide aggregate); formocrescol , ferric sulphate is conditional, CaOH contraindicated
What are the indications for pulpotomy in primary teeth?
Vital coronal pulp with no signs of infection or root resorption.
What is the goal of pulpotomy in primary teeth?
Maintain radicular pulp vitality until normal exfoliation.
What restoration is recommended after pulpotomy in primary molars?
Stainless steel crown (SSC)
What are the medicament for pulpectomy in primary teeth? (preferred)
preferred Zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE).
alternative; iodoform based paste; vitapex which is iodoform n caoh combination
When is pulpectomy indicated in primary teeth?
Irreversible pulpitis or necrotic pulp with minimal/no resorption.
What is LSTR therapy?
Lesion Sterilization and Tissue Repair using triple antibiotic paste.
When is LSTR therapy indicated?
Necrotic primary teeth with resorption or short retention time needed. <12 months
What antibiotics are used in LSTR?
Ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, clindamycin. [NOT minocycline used in RET]
What is apexogenesis?
Continued root formation of a vital immature permanent tooth.
What procedures can achieve apexogenesis?
IPT, DPC, partial pulpotomy, complete pulpotomy.
What is a partial pulpotomy (Cvek pulpotomy)?
Removal of 1–3 mm of inflamed coronal pulp with controlled bleeding.
What materials are preferred for partial pulpotomy?
MTA or calcium hydroxide.
What is apexification?
Inducing a calcified barrier at the apex of a non-vital immature permanent tooth.
What materials are used for apexification?
Calcium hydroxide or MTA apical plug.
What is the preferred material for apexification today?
MTA apical plug
What is Regenerative Endodontic Therapy (RET)?
A biologically based procedure to allow root development in necrotic immature permanent teeth.
What is the scaffold used in RET?
Induced blood clot, Platelet Rich Plasma, or Platelet Rich Fibrin.
What are the goals of RET?
Resolve symptoms, allow continue root development and regain vitality if possible.
What is the primary clinical outcome of RET?
Healing of apical periodontitis and absence of symptoms.
What is the secondary goal of RET?
Increase root length and dentinal wall thickness.
What material is placed over the scaffold in RET?
MTA or bioceramic material/Biodentine.
How is bleeding induced in RET?
By irritating periapical tissue with a sterile file.
How is coronal leakage prevented in pulp therapy?
With a well-sealed, durable adhesive final restoration.
