Volumetric Analysis: Acid-Base Flashcards
What is a solution?
3
A solution is a completely perfect mixture of a solute and a solvent
In a solution the particles of the solute are uniformly distributed throughout the solvent
i.e. the mixture is homogeneous
What is the concentration of a solution?
The concentration of a solution is the amount of solute that is dissolved in a given volume of solution
What is the morality of a solution?
The molarity of a solution is the number of moles of solute per liter of solution
What is a 1M (one molar) solution?
A 1M (one molar) solution is one that contains one mole of the solute dissolved in one litre of solution
What does the number of moles equal.
Volume (in cm^3) x molarity divided by 1000
What does the number of moles of solute in diluted solution equal?
The number of moles of solute in concentrated solution
What is a standard solution?
A solution whose concentration is accurately known
What is a primary standard?
3
A primary standard is a substance that can be obtained in a stable, pure and soluble solid form
So that it can be weighed out and dissolved in water
To give a solution of accurately known concentration
What is a titration?
A titration is a laboratory procedure where a measured volume of one solution is added to a known volume of another solution until the reaction is complete
