Volumetric Analysis Flashcards
what is the formula for number of moles
n=mass/molar mass
what is the formula for concetration?
c=n/v
what is titrations?
the technique to enact the process used to combine unknown and known solutions of chemicals
do Reactions occur in specific ratios?
yes. stoichiometric ratio
what is a standard solution?
the solution we prepare of the compound with an unknown concertation.
what is special about a volumetric flask?
extremely accurate
what is a primary solution?
very pure chemical that is weighed and dissolved in a solvent, in the volumetric flask
what is a neutralization reaction?
a chemical reaction in which acid and a base react quantitatively with each other
what does titre mean?
the volume of standard soliton dispensed from a burette.
what does aliquot mean?
a fixed volume of liquid measured by pipette
what does titrand mean?
a solution whose concentration is determine by titration
what does analyte mean?
a solution of unknown concentration
what does stopcock mean?
the tap attached to a burette
what does concordant titres mean?
volume of standard solution dispensed from a burette that differ by only 0.1ml from highest and the lowest
what does burette mean?
a graduated glass cylinder that dispenses a highly accurate volume of a standard solution
what does pipette mean?
a glass tube that dispenses a highly accurate amount of a solution of unknown concertation
what does titrant mean?
the standard solution in a burette that is added to a solution of unknown solution
What’s the difference between end point and equivalence point?
the equivalence point of titration is reached when chemicals have reached according to the molar ration with no reactant in excess.
the end point is when the indicator changes colour
it is important that the indicator changes colour as close as possible to the equivalence point.
what is the purpose of the titration curve?
A titration curve is a graph of the pH as a function of the amount of titrant (acid or base) added.
