the thickness of lava
How are mafic and felsic magmas related to temperature, viscosity, and explosivity?
Felsic=Thick; lower temp, high explosivity
Mafic=runny; high temp, low explosivity
What are the different types of volcano landforms?
Shield, composite cone, collapse calderas, fissure eruptions
What is a shield?
wide and big; mafic
What is a composite cone?
subduction zones and taller; intermediate
What is a Collapse Caldera?
Lava explodes and then the place the lava was caves in; felsic
What is a fissure eruption?
crack in the ground that goes all the way to the mantle that lava comes out of
What are precursor events?
things that come before the big event and that hint that a big event will happen
How can we reduce risk from volcanic eruptions and tsunamis?
Evacuate people
build structures to with-stand events
make national parks people cant live close
