VODKA FACTS Flashcards
What is vodka?
An odorless, colorless and flavorless alcohol. It is considered appropriate to mix it with anything.
Example: Vodka is often mixed with orange juice or cranberry juice to make popular cocktails.
What can vodka be made from?
Vodka can be made from almost anything including molasses, grain, beets or potatoes. The most popular ingredient is corn.
Additional information: Corn is made into mash, pressure cooked, with enzymes added to produce sugar. Yeast is added to convert the sugar to alcohol.
How is vodka distilled?
Vodka is distilled at a high proof to remove almost all flavoring and color. Its alcohol level is then adjusted to be bottled at eighty to one hundred proof.
Additional information: The best vodka is double or triple distilled and sometimes filtered through very fine quartz sand or activated charcoal.
How are the best vodka’s stored in bars?
The best vodka’s, such as Absolut and Stolichnaya are kept in the cooler or freezer in bars. This allows them to be served ice cold, with minimal dilution.
Example: Bartenders often store premium vodka brands in the freezer to ensure they are served at the perfect temperature.
