Vocabulary III Flashcards

Where you look for background information on the topic you want to experiment with
Hypothesis
is an educated guess, or prediction based ON RESEARCH
Independent variable
is the one the scientist changes. It is also known as the manipulated variable.
Dependent variable
the results of the action of the variable that was changed. It is the factor that can change when the independent variable is changed. It is also known as the responding variable
Control variable
all the things that are kept the same in the experiment. All the factors stay the same.
Data

Experiment
is the way scientists use to solve a problem or answer a question
Observations
are what you see happening in the experiments
Scientific theory
a well substantiated, highly tested, widely accepted, group of evidence
Scientific law
a well substantiated, highly tested, group of evidence that does not appear to have any exceptions at the time it is written. Is true in all circumstances
Falsifiable
a scientific theory must be able to be subjected to experiment and observation in order to be proven true. It can be proven false as well
Purpose
in the experiment it is the reason why you want to do it, the question you want answered.
