Administrative Law
Law related to the relationship between people and government departments, boards, and agencies
Bylaws
Laws that deal with local issues and are passed by the municipal government
Civil/Private Law
The area of law that deals with legal relationships between individuals and between individuals and organizations, also knowm as private law
Constitutional Law
The body of public law set out in the constitution that deals with the distribution and exercise of the powers of government and establishes paramount legal principles and standards
Contract Law
A branch of civil law that provides rules regarding agreements between people and businesses when they purchase or provide goods and services
Criminal Law
A category of public law that prohibits and punishes behaviour that injures people, property, and society as a whole
Distinguishing a Case
A decision by a judge to reject previous decisions and create a new precedent
Domestic Law
Law that governs activity within a nations borders
International Law
Law that govern the conduct of independent nations in their relationships with one another
Jurisdiction
The political or legal authority to pass and enforce laws; also, the judicial authority to decide a case
Procedural Law
Law that prescribes the methods of enforcing rights, duties, and responsibilities of substitutive law
Property Law
The branch of civil law that governs ownership rights in property
Public Law
A category of substantive law that regulates the relationship between the government and its citizens
Statute Law
Laws that are passed by the government
Substantive Law
A category of domestic law that defines the rights, duties, and obligations of citizens and the government
Tort Law
A branch of civil law that holds person or private organizations responsible for the damage that they cause another person as a result of accidental or deliberate action
