ASHA’s Definition of Language Disorder
A language disorder is impaired comprehension and/or use of spoken, written and/or other symbol systems. The disorder may involve (1) the form of language (phonology, morphology, syntax), (2) the content of language (semantics), and/or (3) the function of language in communication (pragmatics) in any combination.
Naturalist Perspective
characterized as a deviation from the average level of ability by a similar group of people (standardized test such as the CELF, SSI,)

Developmental Language Disorder
Developmental language disorder, or DLD for short, is a hidden but very common condition that means a child has difficulty using and/or understanding language.

meaning of words (vocabulary knowledge) in sentences and conversations as well as storytelling.
