Forms the outermost layer of the epidermis.
Consists of dead cells converted to protein. This layer is the physical barrier that provides protection.

Contains cells that are transparent & flat

Consists of 2 or 3 layers of flattened cells
2d. STRATUM SPINOSUM
Consists of several layers of prickly or spiney shaped cells

Deepest layer. Regenerative layer
